Studio Marlowe designs lounge space with the California vibe in Toronto
Creative duo Craig Harding and Alexandra Hutchison of Campagnolo teamed up with Jack and Domenic Scarangella and Steve Christian of Mercatto and opened Casa La Palma, lounge and private event space located directly on the second floor above La Palma restaurant in Toronto. The venue offers digestible snacks including cheese, salumi, seafood and sweet. The space was designed by one of the co-owners Alexandra Hutchison, who is also an interior designer and principal of newly launched design firm Marlowe.
“We wanted to create an extension of La Palma that was connected to the downstairs concept but provided a unique experience. And in keeping with the California vibe, we looked to Palm Springs for inspiration. The space is a contemporary take on the quintessential Palm Springs interior, a sunken living room with a central hearth that evokes the familiarity of domestic hospitality. With modular bar and lounge seating, a private dining room, and rooftop patio for spring 2019, Casa is a space for flexible entertaining. The private dining room can be opened up to the lounge and bar area, allowing for the accommodation of larger events. My approach was to create a locally sourced and crafted interior. Much of the furniture was custom-designed and made locally, as was the lighting, designed by Toronto’s Anony Studio,” explains Alexandra Hutchison, co-owner and interior designer of La Palma and Casa
